Over the Moon

Sunday already? The week has certainly gone by really fast. Too fast to be exact. It feels like I just barely put up last week's post. Sheesh! The weather's been on the dreary side here in So. Cal. June gloom has definitely kicked into high gear. As much as I love the rain, I can't wait for summer to begin. Meaning excuses to go outside and play.

Saw an interesting trailer this week. MOON. Directed by Duncan Jones and starring Sam Rockwell. Feels like a cross between Solaris and 2001: A space Odyssey. Almost. But it looks mighty interesting.

Here's the synopsis via their wikipedia page:

Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is an employee contracted by the company Lunar to mine on the Moon the natural gas Helium 3, which could reverse Earth's energy crisis. Sam is stationed at the lunar base Sarang with only a robot named Gerty (voiced by Kevin Spacey), but two weeks before completing his three-year assignment, he begins feeling out of place. An extraction goes wrong, and Sam suspects Lunar of trying to replace him as he realizes someone else is on the Moon.

From the trailer, it looks very much like a one man show for Sam Rockwell. I think he's really good actor. I enjoyed his performance in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford as well as Frost/Nixon. The movie has gotten mostly positive reviews from around the festival circuit. It's opening in limited release on June 12th. I'll try to check it out. I'm sure it'll be playing in a theater or two around LA.

Here's another little tidbit I found out. The director, Duncan Jones, is the son of David Bowie. Yep, Mr. Ziggy Stardust himself.

Anyway...here's the trailer for Moon. Enjoy.
