Drafting Bones

So I've finished the 4th draft of my feature screenplay. WOOHOO!!! I feel the story is getting to where I want it to be and still maintaining my original concept. It's currently at 106-pages. 107-pages, if you count the title page. Generally, feature scripts are between 90-120 pages. A lot of which get trimmed down in the editing room floor. I'm sure I'll be making few more changes as I go along, but it's becoming a very solid story. A beginning, a middle and an end so-to-speak. I'm happy.

Keep your fingers crossed that I'll find some funding for it. Making movies aren't cheap, any way you look at it. You still have to spend. But I can work with any budget. One of the things I've always said to people is that there's always a way to make things happen. You just have to look hard to find the solution. Sort of like doing a MacGyver. Take a stick of chewing gum, paper clip and a piece of string and somehow turn it into a bomb. Remember that show? I'm feeling optimistic as always and I'm going to keep moving along. It's definitely a story worth telling. I guess only time will tell. I've already got an idea for a new script I want to write. It's just a vague outline at the moment, I'll eventually get to it. I still need to finish an adaptation I've been working on for the past year. It's based on a short story by Edgar Allen Poe and it isn't The Raven or Tall tale Heart.

In 1973, Susie Salmon is raped and murdered by a neighbor, George Harvey, a serial killer of young girls and women. She finds herself in Heaven, observing her family as they grieve for her. She also watches her killer who, having covered his tracks successfully, is preparing to murder again. Susie struggles to balance her desire for vengeance on Harvey and her desire to have her family recover from their loss.

I remember reading the book a few years back at the suggestion of a friend and enjoying it. It is an interesting book. It takes you through the lives of family members as years pass from the outcome of the tragedy, but it's through the perception of Susie Salmon. I was surprised that they where going to adapt it into a movie because I wanted to do it. Darn it! Too late. Oh well... The trailer does look interesting. I'll just have to wait and see when it opens before I make a judgment call. The movie opens on December 11, 2009. But for now, enjoy the trailer.
