Wildfires A-blazin' with an Avatar

For the past few days, it's been really hot around here. 95-100+ degree weather. With the addition of the wildfires up in the Angeles National Forest aren't helping conditions either. Smoke and some ash fill the air. So it makes it even hotter and humid. The air quality is pretty bad right now. The La CaƱada Flintridge fire began around Wednesday afternoon and has been burning since. 20,000 acres gone and some homes damaged. People have been evacuated, several more awaiting word for their neighborhoods.

The picture was taken from my car, a couple of blocks from where I live.  You can't really see much, but those aren't rain clouds. That's been the northern view from my home for the past few days. Usually, you look up and see the luscious green mountains staring at you saying, "hello, how are you?" It really looks beautiful on a clear day. You could even see snow on the peaks during winter.  The mountains are roughly 15-30 minutes via freeway from where I'm located.
The plumes of smoke and flames can even be seen from the 110 connection from the 105 freeway in Downtown Los Angeles. Drive the 210 east or west you can definitely see the damage being done. At night, the orange glow filling the sky as well as flames wildly dancing. It's really freaky. There were three additional wildfires, but those seemed to be contained. This one is the biggie. So far, reports say it's only 5% contained. It may be a while. I'm hoping some good weather will come soon.

Anyway, new trailer this week. James Cameron's Avatar. Yes, the same guy who did Titanic is back with a new adventure. I'm not sure what to make of it, yet. From the trailer, it looks to be a CG heavy film. It's supposed to be a "3-D science fiction epic." I'm just quoting what is says on the movie's wikipedia page.

Premise via IMDB:
In the future, Jake, a paraplegic war veteran, is brought to another planet, Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na'vi, a humanoid race with their own language and culture. Those from Earth find themselves at odds with each other and the local culture.

The budget is estimated to be around $237m. I wish someone would spare me at least a couple million for my movie. Oops. Sorry, just thinking out loud. Could this be James Cameron's comeback? What has he done since then anyway? I liked some of his movies like Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator 1 and 2 and yes, I enjoyed Titanic. I was young when it came out and it had Leonardo DiCaprio. That's the only legitimate excuse I could think of.

Anyway, movie opens December 19, 2009.  Enjoy!

i saw a preview like this in the theater when i saw district 9, very different from the first preview i saw. from these, it looks like the entire movie is cg, with the occasional actor standing around in a green room to do his/her part. but i think i'm gonna like this.
